Query about ABAP future in SAP HANA
Hello Experts,
I have read many articles and SDN post about SAP HANA but does not get clear answer.
I am having 7 years of experience of SAP ABAP and wanted to learn ABAP in SAP HANA.
I learn that SAP HANA is having its own language also as SQL script in earlier release but would this be using also in current and future.
So would learning of SQL script give more advantage and how can i get started learning ABAP in SAP HANA.

Can not restart DB after failed recovery...suspect
Database 'XXXXXXXX' cannot be opened. An earlier attempt at recovery marked it 'suspect'. Check the ASE errorlog for information
when I try to use the database.
This is after trying to change the suspect flag then a shutdown, and reboot..
I really don't care about the data in the database.... as long as it comes up..
I have spent some time to create the database and all the datafiles needed (there are many) which took some time.. so I would rather not have to do that all over again..
Is there a way I can get the database up and running then drop the existing tables?
here is a section of the log..

ABAP - Detect Input Source (Keyboard, barcode-reader)
Hello All,
I need to be able to detect if a certain text field on the screen was filled by the computer keyboard or by a usb barcode reader.
Is this possible? Even if i could get the name, usb port, comm port would be enough.

Version 11.5
The 202... number is returned fine. The number 1,004,571,083.60 is being displayed as 1,799,182,924.08. When I BROWSE FIELD DATA, the 1,799,182,924.08 number is displayed. In fact, when I browse, the data appears in a pop up box sorted from the smallest value to the largest, not in the order returned by the report. The largest values are incorrect. The smaller numbers are all correct. Doesn't make sense to me! I can try to ToText() to see what happens. Thanks for the response.

What happens if you comment out the parameter line (cr1.SetParameterValue("ParameterName", Actual_Parameter); ) and let the report prompt?
Can you attach the report here? (Rename it to *.txt, hit the "Use advanced editor" and attach.

while creating universe you have two options to select the connections
- OLAP Connection
- Relational Connection
As per your requirement you have chosen OLAP Connection i think.
So OLAP connections to connect to an SAP NetWeaver BW data source based on a BW server, a cube, and a BEx query.
If your backed as BW ...then No business layer or universe is required to access BEx queries. We can directly select the BEx query as a data source.
You can do all the calculations & data restriction (CKF, RKF, Filters and Variables) and use Bex Q as direct source.
Please find the below link. To know the difference b/w OLAP and Relational connections and what are the advantages using the OLAP connection.

Better to lock source system and clear all delta records means load delta data to bw side.
later you can move data source to ecc prod
replicate into bw prod.
move bw active data source to bw prod.
move other transports to bw prod.
Once transports are succeeded unlock source system.
otherwise do this activity at weekends.

Multiple Proof of Delivery against one Delivery
Hello Experts,
Is it possible in ECC to post multiple Proof of Deliveries (POD's) against a single delivery? Also need to know if it is possible, can is still be done after the first POD has been billed. Is there a user exit or note that can be applied to accomplish this? Let me know if this makes sense. Thanks in advance.

- The reasons that I prefer a new installation would be:
- It gives us the opportunity to 'Start Fresh' with a new installation. In my previous experiences, this seems to provide a stronger base install and a more stable deployment.
- It gives us the opportunity to upgrade to the latest version of the server OS as well as newer physical hardware
- From a BusinessObjects standpoint, an upgrade installation only upgrades items that you have installed in your current environment, so any new features may have to be manually installed after the initial upgrade (I've gathered this from documentation, not personal experience)
- For your point on the LCM:
- I do like the LCM and use it for typical promotion between environments. However, I am a little scared to use it for our main cutover to a new deployment because of a previous experience. We tried to use it for larger imports in BI 4.0 and it resulted in failed jobs, object corruption, and major issues with our system database. We have over 30,000 historical instances that need to be migrated, which is our biggest problem.
- In regards to the UMT, can you use it to go from 4.0 to 4.1? I know previously, we could not use it to move objects from and old 4.0 environment to a new 4.0 environment... I didn't know if going from 4.0 to 4.1 was supported with this tool. I haven't built our test environment yet, but would be willing to give this a try.

In newer versions of SAP, SAPHostExec
saphostexec is an executable that runs under root (UNIX) or the Local System Account (Microsoft Windows). It controls all of the functions for which a special user of this type are required, such as the operating system collector saposcol and sapacosprep. It is connected to sapstartsrv in host mode using a local socket, which ensures quick and secure communication and is also started during the startup of the host.

When you check the status of saphostexec using the command
/usr/sap/hostctrl/exe/saphostexec -status
You will see below processes
saphostexec running (pid = 4729)
sapstartsrv running (pid = 4732)
saposcol running (pid = 0)
I guess the relation is clear for you.

Apart from the steps that you mentioned, also go through SAP Note

What is the correct syntax for hexadecimal notation.
I can create following function
CREATE FUNCTION "PMX_FN_TEST" (
p_in INTEGER
)

but calling it as follows:
SELECT "PMX_FN_TEST"( 5 ) FROM dummy;
results in error:
