Why we live in this world? Is it because we want to be successful?
We were told as children that if we do well in school, we could be successful. Then, if we choose certain subjects in higher studies, we would be successful. As adults we were suggested to discard past education and start a career according to the latest world trends to be successful. Does that mean all educated and employed are successful in life? A careful analysis is required to answer this. Let’s examine what life success means. The quick answer may be someone with enough money, a good career, social status etc. Some may agree and some disagree. Then how do we define success in life. Now the question has turned tricky.
Later in life, we started dating, got married, had children, children too went to school, college, got married. Then we retired and heads towards the final stages of our life. At that stage, can we tell ourselves that we already had a successful life?
Can we say today that we will be able to say then, that we had a successful life? If yes, Great! If no, then what can be done?
Some says to choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life. However, in reality, most people sacrifice many significant events in their life for job sake, to keep employer,boss and colleagues happy. We were absent during many family social events, kid’s school anniversary, graduation, birthdays and many other celebration because we have to do implementation/support. We dump our responsibility to our spouse and other family members saying that we got to get to work early and stay late. Then what does success means?
How do our parents, siblings, spouse, kids, friends, neighbours, colleagues and strangers we meet in the street rate us about our performance as a human being. We may never understand our ratings deep inside from their heart and we tend to ignore those by saying this is best we could do. Does that define a successful life?
Does an individual’s physical, mental and emotional health helps to be successful? Also does a person’s character, behavior, discipline, attitude and composure help that person to be successful in life?
